Bristol Men’s Peer Support Group was started in July 2024 by The Bridge SARC in response to so few men coming to our service but feeling there was a need for support. We developed the group with support from Plymouth based survivor organisation ‘Operation Emotion’ who provided guidance and training for our facilitators. Peer support is powerful and it works. It’s a mutual relationship where people with shared experiences support each other especially as they move through challenging times.
The men of the group wanted other men reading this page to know:
- It is a male led space and the men say how the group is run so it feels safe
-
You don’t have to go in and say what happened. It’s perfectly fine to go along and just see for yourself if it works for you.
-
There will always be two facilitators with training on peer support so it is a safe environment
-
You can attend as many of the sessions as you want and leave and come back. No questions asked.
-
We offer a calm, relaxed and safe environment with a hot drink
Feedback from men in the group
“I felt no pressure to share and this made me feel so much more comfortable to share when it felt appropriate.”
“A space to drop my shields and feel accepted by the group.”
“Warm and welcoming.”
“I’ve never not felt safe in the group.”
“Not as weird as you’d think!”
“Brew, blether and bullsh** (it’s what blokes do)”
The group is run on a Wednesday 18:30hrs – 20:00hrs in central Bristol. If you would like to know more and speak to facilitator:

Experiences
All the staff have been so friendly and welcoming, and very kind. I was supported from the very first contact, and overall, could not have gone through the past few years without this wonderful service. A major asset to our NHS service, and one that I hope is able to reach as many individuals as need it.
